Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IWC PAN) Warsaw, Poland
Built right after WWII, 29/37 Sokolowska St. was origninally a central hot water boiler plant for the district of Wola in central Warsaw. It was decommissioned in 1977, and outfitted with scientific equipment to house the newly formed High Pressure Research Center; presently Institute of High Pressure Physics - one of the world's top research and production facilities for blue and violet lasers.
Though many different additions took place over the decades, W designlab inc. was commissioned for a full renovation. Construction started in late 2009.
Wood composite Prodema panelling has been installed on the corners. The louvre system along the front and sides of the building deflects the morning sun and provides privacy to the researchers inside. The strips of prodema panelling along the sides of the building will become obscured with ivy.
